Dear Friends,
As a mother from Kenya, I’ve always dreamed of seeing my son, Ethan Njuguna, a 10th grader, find something that would ignite his spirit and give him purpose. Thanks to First Exposures, that dream has come true in the most beautiful way. This free photography program has not only sparked Ethan’s passion for photography but has opened doors to a w
orld of possibilities, transforming his life and our family’s future. I am writing this letter to share our story, hoping to inspire parents, community members, and anyone who believes in the importance of mentoring youth to support this life-changing program that makes such a profound impact.
When Ethan first joined First Exposures’ Saturday photography class, I had to gently push him to go. As an introvert with mild hearing loss and a twice- exceptional (2e) learner, he was hesitant about new experiences. But after just two sessions, everything changed. I no longer needed to remind him about class; on Saturday morning, I would wake up to find him already gone, camera in hand, brimming with excitement. His mentor, Noah, saw Ethan’s heart and potential, patiently guiding him with expertise and care.
Through First Exposures, Ethan has blossomed into a skilled photographer. His camera is now his constant companion, a tool to express his unique view of the world. Inspired by Noah, Ethan is dreaming big: designing a clothing line featuring his photography and envisioning starting a business of his own. As a Kenyan family, we can’t wait for Ethan to return to Kenya and turn his lens on the majestic safaris he loves, photographing animals in their natural beauty. He will surely create images that capture the soul of our homeland.
True to its name, First Exposures has exposed Ethan to so much more than photography; it has given him a new skill, a hobby, a potential career, and the confidence to dream. The fact that these classes are free is nothing short of a miracle. First Exposures’ commitment to accessibility ensures that young people like Ethan, regardless of background or challenges, have the chance to discover their talents and soar.
To parents, I urge you to see First Exposures as a gift to children: a place where they can find their spark in a nurturing, inspiring environment. To our community of supporters, I ask you to recognize the transformative power of your meaningful donation. Your generosity keeps these classes free, and by investing in First Exposures, you are creating a legacy of creativity, opportunity, and hope for families like ours.
From the depths of my heart, I am so thankful to First Exposures for giving Ethan the tools, exceptional mentorship, and belief in himself to chase his dreams. This program has shown him that his future is limitless. I humbly ask you to join me in supporting this incredible program so more young people can find their light.
With heartfelt gratitude,

Nancy Githoitho
